My Adoption Story - Lonnie

My name is Lonnie, and my daughter was diagnosed with Hep C and cancer at the age of 37. Because of this, she became unable to care for her two children; one a toddler and the other five years old. For her, adoption was the most loving choice she could have made for them. Both children were adopted into a loving family together.

She had to make a decision quickly when she became too ill to parent daily. The adoptive parents had an agreement that they would allow the children to be part of her life until she passed. After 18 months, she passed, and the adoptive parents were there for the children as they grieved. The adoptive parents obtained counseling support services for the children as well.

If it had not been for the her foresight, it could have been much more difficult for the children and our family members. Also, having adoptive parents willing to include her in the lives of the children shows the compassion this couple had for others.
